Named after Islay’s largest freshwater lake neighbouring the distillery, the Loch Gorm 2021 edition is as enjoyable straight as it is in cocktails. It has a rich taste that lives up to its deep coppery colour – a tribute to the dark murky tone of the loch’s water. The flavour lineup includes rich sherry notes and faint notes of peat smoke on the nose, and a palate of cloves, dark chocolate, juicy prunes with waves of roasted almonds, sultanas, nougat and peat embers.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Intense sweet pipe smoke, followed by waves of freshly cut strawberries and candied lemon peel. Lighter notes of Neroli (orange blossoms), soft toffee and cloves.
Taste
An initial note of dark chocolate and toasted walnuts, gentle tobacco smokiness, hints of caramel and dates accompanied by subtle warming peat smoke.
Finish
Long and evolving with cinnamon and liquorice wood, chocolate bitters and lingering earthy smoke.
